Workshop series: Re-imagining physical education to increase engagement for all
This series of workshops will support teachers and faculties to review current practices related to physical education and explore innovative new ways of presenting learning that reinvigorate their programs and increase levels of engagement from students. The first workshop is planned to be rolled out in four locations during Term 3 with follow up workshops scheduled for Term 4 and into 2022.
Workshop day 1: Translating the syllabus requirements for physical education into innovative programs
This full day workshop will focus on:
- unpacking and interpreting the movement-based outcomes and exploring what student achievement can look like in each Stage.
- translating movement content into innovative and engaging lessons that challenge all students
- exploring the propositions and how they can inform our PE programs
- collaborative review of current scope and sequences and content mapping and audit process of the units of work that have been developed to identify any gaps in coverage.
- modelling a process for critiquing current practices – reflecting on whether they are best practice, evidence-based, engaging and challenging for all (teachers and students).
This first workshop will be followed up by a second workshop in Term 4.
Workshop day 2: The power of pedagogy in delivering and assessing engaging PE programs
This full day workshop will focus on the pedagogical tools teachers can use to:
- facilitate greater levels of learning, engagement and development for students in physical education classes
- support consistent assessment of students’ achievement in PE across schools.
- identify authentic opportunities for formative assessment of movement-based outcomes as part of the teaching and learning sequence.
