Masterclass #7 2024:
Interpreting intercultural general capability and cross-curriculum priority of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures in programming can be challenging for PDHPE teachers.
This Masterclass will cover:
- the intent of the general capabilities and cross-curriculum priorities
- research-informed unit plan and lesson examples from PDHPE teaching
- criteria for selecting good quality resources to assist programming
- assessment examples.
Build your confidence in embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledges, histories and cultures in PDHPE with a strengthened awareness of intercultural and racial literacies in your teaching.
PRESENTER
Dr Sue Whatman, Griffith University; President, ACHPER National
Sue is known internationally for her research in decolonising health and physical education curriculum and sport pedagogy, in initial teacher education and teacher and coach professional learning. Recognised as a Senior Fellow in Higher Education (SFHEA), Sue’s practitioner-focused research informs her teaching, fuelled and characterised by a sustained commitment to social justice, equity, decolonising and anti-racist praxis.

Attending an ACHPER NSW Masterclass will contribute 1.5 hours of NESA elective PD in the priority area of delivery and assessment of NSW curriculum – addressing standard descriptor 7.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
