HMS Extension: Depth studies
September 10 @ 3:45 pm - 5:15 pm AEST
$50.00ACHPER NSW offers a comprehensive Stage 6 HMS professional learning program, co-designed and delivered by ACHPER NSW staff and experienced teachers.
Our HMS Extension sessions unpack a specific area of the HMS syllabus to help build your understanding and confidence.
Depth studies are a new structural element of the HMS syllabus that require upfront planning. Depth studies have 20 hours of programming time allocated, with no content allocated to these 20 hours. Teachers need to think strategically about how depth studies will be scheduled and planned to ensure student learning is consolidated and extended. Depth studies shouldn’t be more of the same.
During this session, we’ll unpack learning opportunity examples for detailed exploration of Year 11 content that sets students up for Year 12. We’ll explore learning sequences that model the inclusion of depth studies:
- within the teaching of focus area content
- that extend understanding after a focus area has been taught
- scheduled regularly across the three terms of Year 11.
- as an excursion/incursion to practically apply content knowledge.
The webinar will be an interactive 90 minute session. You will take away a sample learning sequence outlining:
- a variety of teaching strategies to address the content
- formative assessment opportunities
- formal assessment task options
- supplementary digital resources.
Who should attend? Any PDHPE teachers interested in teaching the Stage 6 HMS course.
