Masterclass #1 2025:

This presentation introduces the concept of Games-based Character Pedagogy (GnCP), which integrates character education into Quality Physical Education (QPE). The model builds upon the Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU) approach, aligning it with the development of character traits, such as respect, responsibility, and perseverance, through development and aims to expand the focus of physical education beyond physical competencies to include vital social and emotional skills.

PRESENTER

Dean Dudley, Macquarie University 
Dean is a 2012 Churchill Fellow and was an Expert Consultant for the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization’s Quality Physical Education Guidelines for Policy Makers (2015) and the Kazan Action Plan (2017). Dean was appointed as an Independent Specialist in Health and Physical Education by UNESCO’s International Bureau of Education in 2018, Advisor to the Australian Sports Commission National Sport Research Agenda in 2022, and Physical Education Specialist to the Oceanic National Olympic Committee (Education Commission) in 2023. He has an interdisciplinary program of research but he is broadly interested in the association between health and education, with a specific interest in the role that learning plays in the health and quality of life of children. Internationally, he is recognised for his work in physical education, learning assessment, pedagogy, and physical literacy.

Attending an ACHPER NSW Masterclass will contribute 1.5 hours of NESA elective PD in the priority area of delivery and assessment of NSW curriculum – addressing standard descriptor 7.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
