2024 in review

Tracy Puckeridge and Brad McAllister

As we wrap up for another momentous year, it’s incredible to reflect on the achievements of ACHPER NSW.  We have delivered the largest number of events in the 12 years I have worked at ACHPER NSW to support educators across the
state.

With the complete curriculum now available to educators in NSW, we are entering an exciting new phase. The next steps bringing this curriculum to life for our students, offering immense opportunities for collaboration, learning, and
innovation.  These developments pave the way for fresh perspectives and new possibilities in our field.

ACHPER NSW highlights for 2024:

  • Over 80 Events Delivered: reaching more than 2,500 delegates, marking a 66% increase in quality professional learning opportunities, particularly focused on Year 11 Health and Movement Science (HMS).
  • K-12 PDHPE Conference: Once again, this flagship event was highly attended equipping educators with resources they could implement into their classrooms.
  • Early Career Teachers Conference (ECT): Attendance grew by 27%, thanks to the ECT subcommittee’s dedication and invaluable feedback.
  • Expanded In-School Consultancy: Providing tailored support to educators directly in their schools.

  • Collaborative Advocacy: Continue to advocate with NESA, Department of Education and the Minister of Education to maintain the integrity of our learning area and to support teachers of PDHPE.

This year’s success would not have been possible without the incredible support of the PDHPE Community.  Your engagement at our events inspires us and enables us to do what we are so passionate about and give back to you through more events, resources and opportunities.

I’d like to say a heart felt thank you to my team of seven – Karen Burton, Janice Atkin, Shannon Dixon, Lisa Quinn, Rachel McKay and Elle Smith who consistently go above and beyond, in their part-time roles.

We are also deeply grateful to The National Centre of Implementation Science, ACT Education Directorate, NSW Department of Education, AFL NSW & ACT, Western Sydney University, Australian Catholic University for their continued collaboration and fostering a positive environment for learning and growing.

Thank you to our valued partners Tennis NSW & ACT and RHSport for their ongoing support and our sponsors and exhibitors at our conference and events.

A special thank you goes to the ACHPER NSW board, whose passion drives the Association’s leadership in supporting educators.

Plans are underway for another exciting year ahead in 2025 with the continued rollout of Year 12 HMS syllabus implementation workshops and support around the K-6 & 7-10 PDHPE syllabus rollout, we look forward to building on this year’s momentum.
